One example of a fast-track program in the one the college designed for students who want to work as substitute teachers.

The college’s Associate of Arts in Teaching is a two-year program designed to help students become teachers. This program is available online and on six of the college’s campuses. It includes four semesters of courses such as Mathematics for Teachers and Public Speaking. Students can transfer any or all of the credits they earned to a bachelor’s program. The Lone Star College System also offers two fast-track education programs that will help students get their Texas teaching certification.

Those enrolled in the Associate of Arts program can study speech, music or international studies as well as general arts. The college designed these programs for those who want to transfer to another school. It also has two game design programs. The Lone Star College System offers some of the top cosmetology programs in the Houston area too. Though some students will enroll in the basic program, others will want to choose a specialty area. They can study facial cosmetology or get a degree that qualifies them to teach cosmetology classes. Students can complete their degrees and then earn a certificate from the college.

Many people living in and around Houston know the college for its certificate programs. Some of those programs help students to find work in the hospitality industry. Its floral designer certificate program teaches students how to care for plants and flowers and how to put together their own floral designs. They also learn how to work with their future clients. Its wedding planner certificate program can help students start their own event planning companies. Not only do they learn how to work with clients to help them plan their big days, but they also learn how to work with the vendors who supply them with flowers, rentals and anything else they might need.

About Lone Star College System

The Lone Star College System is a system of community colleges located in and around Houston, Texas. Founded in 1972, locals voted to establish a new community college in Houston that would offer some practical training programs. This college opened the following year as the North Harris County College. When the district added a neighboring county in the early 1990s, the school became the North Harris Montgomery Community College District. It adopted the name of the Lone Star College System in 2007 after voters picked that new name. The campuses in the system all use the LSCS name today.

LSCS now consists of six campuses and two university systems. Local high school students have the chance to take college classes and earn credits that they can transfer to another college or university later. More than 90,000 students take classes from one of the schools in this system every year, which makes it the largest school system in Houston and one of the largest in Texas.

Lone Star College System Accreditation Details

As LSCS has regional accreditation, adults and traditional students can apply for financial aid. Its regional accreditation comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which grants accreditation to schools in the south. The system also has accreditation from the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation, National Center for Construction Education and Research, Commission on Dental Accreditation, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and several other professional agencies and organizations.

Lone Star College System Application Requirements

This college system has an open enrollment policy, which means that it does not have an application deadline and that it accepts most students. The college accepts high school students who want to earn college and high school credits at the same time, recent high school graduates, those who did not finish high school and adult learners. Students can actually attend an information session on one of its campuses and talk to an admissions representative. That representative can help students apply on the spot. Prospective students can also use the system’s online application.

After completing the application, the college asks that students take multiple placement tests. Their scores on those tests will determine where they start in different subjects, including math and English. They will then submit vaccination records and their high school and/or college transcripts. LSCS then allows students to put down a deposit and register for classes.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost that LSCS students pay will depend on whether they live in the same district where they want to take classes. Students have the option of attending campuses outside of their home districts. A full-time student who takes 12 credits will pay $800 per term to take classes in their home districts. If they take classes in another district, they will pay $1,940 per term. The college also offers a different tuition rate for nonresidents of $2,360 per term. Students can see the exact cost they will pay each term based on how many credits they want to take.

Financial aid representatives are available for online chats every weekday. They can help students fill out the FAFSA and look at all of their financial aid options. Students can not only borrow money, but they can also get some free grants. The college offers academic scholarships and scholarships for those enrolling in a STEM program. Students who want to earn a college degree before returning to the workforce may qualify for several scholarships too. The Lone Star College System offers financial aid packages for all types of students and anyone enrolling in one of its degree programs .
